70-20-10 Concept: Achieving Balance and Harmony in Interior Spaces

Creating a well-balanced and visually appealing Interior space involves more than selecting colours and Furniture. One guideline to achieve harmony in your design is the 70-20-10 concept. This concept provides a framework for allocating percentages to crucial design elements, resulting in a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing environment.

The 70-20-10 concept is a design principle that suggests allocating percentages to three key components: dominant element, secondary element, and accent element. By implementing this concept, you can create a balanced and harmonious visual composition within your space.

Dominant Element (70%):

The dominant element forms the foundation of your design and should account for approximately 70% of the overall composition. This element can be furniture, a particular material, or architectural features. It sets the tone and creates a focal point in the space. Please carefully consider the dominant element's size, colour, and texture to make sure it stands out while anchoring the design.

Secondary Element (20%):

The secondary element complements the dominant element and should occupy around 20% of the design. It can be applied to more miniature furniture, wall coverings, or window treatments. The secondary element enhances the overall aesthetic and adds depth and visual interest to the space. Consider using materials, patterns, or colours that harmonise with the dominant element while providing contrast or variation.

Accent Element (10%):

The accent element brings a touch of personality and visual intrigue, comprising approximately 10% of the design. It is the focal point within the space and can be achieved through accessories, artwork, or a bold pop of colour. The accent element should create a sense of surprise and draw attention to specific areas, breaking up any monotony in the overall design.

Considerations for Applying the 70-20-10 Concept to Your Own Home:

Colour Palette:

Apply the dominant colour to the walls, more oversized furniture, or flooring. The secondary colour can be introduced through textiles, upholstery, or smaller furniture items. Reserve the accent colour for accessories, artwork, or a statement piece that catches the eye.

Texture and Material:

Incorporate textures and materials across the dominant, secondary, and accent elements. This will add depth, tactile interest, and visual appeal to the space.

 Balance and Proportion:

Could you make sure that the dominant, secondary, and accent elements are proportionate to their assigned percentages? Balance is critical to achieving a visually pleasing and cohesive design.

 Personal Style:

Adapt the 70-20-10 concept to your style and preferences. Explore different combinations, experiment with colours and textures, and trust your instincts to create a space that reflects your unique taste.
